Costs
The costs of a consultation with a specialist varies between specialties and the individual specialists.
In general, the charges reflect the cost of providing high quality care in a well equipped, state of the art facility, however effort is made to keep costs as affordable as possible to as many people as possible. There is usually a discount for government pension card holders and most services attract a medicare rebate that partially off-sets the costs involved. Initial consultations are longer and attract a higher charge than review appointments. More details regarding the likely cost for your particular consultation can be obtained when booking your appointment. Procedures done in the office or in a hospital may attract additional costs. Malvern Hill Consulting is a private clinic. All consultations have a consulting fee and we do not bulk bill consultations. All accounts are to be paid on the day of consultation.
Why you need a referral
Please send your referral to our offices before your consultation via email office@malvernhillconsulting.com.au or fax to 03 9824 6991. This gives the doctor an outline of your Medical history and the reason for your visit. It is also a that a referral is presented, at the time of your consulation, from either a General Practioner or another Specialist. Providing our practice with a valid referral will mean that you will be able to obtain a rebate from Medicare for a portion of the doctor's fee.
Health Insurance
Health insurance only covers costs incurred in treatment in a hospital, so will not cover any of the costs of an office consultation.
For hospital treatment there is often a “gap” between the charge and the amount the insurer will cover that must be paid by the patient. This amount may vary between different health insurance policies, with cheaper hospital cover often having larger gap payments for treatment required. This will be outlined in detail if a hospital procedure needs to be arranged for you.
Appointment Reminders
An appointment reminder will be sent to your mobile phone via an SMS prior to your scheduled appointment.
Cancellation Policy
In order to be respectful of our practitioners and the medical needs of other patients we ask that you call us promptly if you are unable to attend your appointment. If it is necessary to cancel your scheduled appointment we require that you call us 24 hours prior to the consultation at the very latest. This time may then be reallocated appropriately.
If there is a repeat no show, nil attendance or late cancellation, further appointments need to be paid in advance.
